What Is Aeration?

Aeration Grass

Aeration is vital in caring for your lawn but can be confusing if you’re not sure what it is or what it does to benefit you. Here’s all you need to know about what aeration is, and why you should be doing it.

Aerification

Lawn aeration, also called aerification, is the process that allows nutrients, water, and air to get deeper into your soil, and allow your grass to form stronger roots. The stronger the roots, the healthier your lawn will be! There are many tools that can help you complete this that aid you in producing a healthy, thriving lawn.

Soil Compaction

Aeration is also important because it alleviates soil compaction. Somewhat like a clogged pore, compacted soil cant let debris out, causing build up of bad stuff. These old particles can block what is needed to the roots below, starving the healthy roots, even when you are doing everything else right.  Compacted soils desperately need to be penetrated to better circulate air, water, and vitamins through the soil, the not only rid the soil of old particles, but to also allow the grass above to lock in the much-needed deeper roots.
