What Are The 2 Kinds Of Grass Used In Arizona?

Kinds Of Grass

To many, it may come as a surprise back here in Arizona, we need to use two separate types of grass in the two seasons we have. Find out why here:

Why Does Arizona Need 2 Kinds?

With Arizona’s extremely warm temperatures, it becomes no surprise that many plants can’t take the heat. This includes grass. Since the desert climate in Phoenix mean extremely different seasons, we have to are used to separate types of grass if you want to keep our yard plush and green year-round.

Bermuda Grass & Winter Rye

In the summer, to withstand our triple digit temperatures, Bermuda is planted. However, since Bermuda lies dormant during our winter months, winter rye replaces it.  Winter rye is planted typically in October, and in May when our temperatures between to spike, the rye will start to die and allow for the Bermuda to awaken again.

Caring can be a complicated process & requires attention to the amount of water being provided. Ensuring that you have a landscaper with knowledge of when to replant & how much to water is your best bet to keep a green lawn year round.
