Say Bye To Bugs PT 2: Rid Your Home & Patio Of Flies

Bugs Flies Green Leaf

Shoo fly, don’t bother me! Don’t bother my garden or patio either, while you’re at it! Flies are not only an annoyance, but they can carry diseases as well. Learn how to get rid of multiple kinds of flies in this weeks blog post.

Fruit Flies

Fruit flies get their name from what they’re attracted to. They lay eggs on fruits or vegetables that are left out and begin decaying. To get rid of these small flying creatures, mix vinegar with dish soap in a small bowl near the fruit or sink, as they are attracted to wet surfaces as well. The dish soap in the mixture will trap them when they come to feed off the vinegar.

Fungus Flies

Fungus flies, or fungus gnats, infest overwatered indoor plants. If you have planters in your house that are over water, you are creating a perfect breeding ground for them. To get rid of this problem, put an inch thick layer of sand on top of the wet soil, to ensure they can’t get in or out of the soil of the plant.

House Flies

Houseflies typically find their way into your home from outdoors. Securing your home from a fly problem is tricky, but it is possible to get rid of them. Make sure that your trash is not only concealed, but is an overflowing or past due to be taken out. They are attracted to the smell of rotting foods, like the ones found in garbage cans. If they are a recurring problem in your home, looking into having a small-mesh screen door put in could be the solution.
