How Much Should you Pay for a Good Landscaper?

Good Landscaper Mower

As the old saying goes: “Good help is hard to find.” There are a lot of landscapers out there, but there aren’t a lot of good landscapers that you can rely on for efficient and quality work. We’re proud to say that we only employ the finest landscapers at ABC Scapes: They work hard for our customer’s continued business, and they make every landscape they work on look like a vision of earthly paradise.

If you’re wondering how much you should pay for a good landscaper, here’s a few principles and rules of thumb that you should keep in mind. And if you got any questions, give ABC Scapes a call!

Prices Will Vary

There’s a reason why we aren’t listing specific amounts for what you should pay for landscaping in this blog. It can vary wildly depending on where you live and the kind of work you need done. Our recommendation is to ask around and see what several different landscaping companies and contractors are charging for particular services to figure out what the average cost is for your area. Landscapers working in a desert environment are going to have different rates than landscapers working in woodland areas. If prices seem to vary wildly between certain companies, that isn’t unusual. Landscapers with skills and dedication to their craft will often be pricier than someone who doesn’t have their experience or talent.

You Get What You Pay For

It can be tempting to cut corners in life, but one area where you shouldn’t take the easy way out is landscaping. Good landscaping can cost you a bit, but it’s a cost that is worth it. Don’t settle for less than the best. A bad landscaper can RUIN your landscape and could even endanger you. A tree planted in the wrong area could collapse on you or your home later on after a storm. A landscaper who doesn’t know what they’re doing also won’t be able to recognize critical warning signs that you need to know about. They won’t recognize poisonous plants in your yard that could hurt your pets or children. And they will not spot the presence of potentially dangerous insects and other wildlife settling into your landscape until it’s too late.

Another thing to consider  about the cost of good landscaping: In the long run, you’ll save more money. A bad landscaper could cost you way more money over time: Fixing their mistakes could take a lot more time and money than you should have to spend on your landscaping. A good landscaper has the right tools and the right training to get the job done right the first time.

Good Landscaping Is An Investment

Good landscaping is an expense, but it is an expense that can pay off in the long run. Landscaping boosts the curb appeal of your property. Curb appeal refers to a home’s attractiveness to prospective home buyers. Your landscape is your home’s first impression. If people see an immaculately cared for landscape, it sends a positive message about the condition of the rest of your home. The money you spend now on landscaping will return to you threefold when you sell your home years later, netting a larger sum thanks to your property’s sterling curb appeal.

Figure Out Your Priorities

Before getting a landscaper, figure out what kind of work you’d like done. Need someone to tend to your flowers or cut your grass on a regular basis? Want someone to help you redesign your entire landscape? Looking for someone to do arbor care? The kind of landscaping you need done and the frequency in which it needs to be done are the biggest factors in determining what you’ll pay for for landscaping.

List out your needs so when you do talk to potential landscapers you can see what their level of expertise and comfort is in those areas. Work out your budget, as well: Figure out how much you can afford to spend on landscaping. Knowing exactly what you’re willing to spend can make finding the right landscaper a lot easier.
