Living in Arizona, it’s one of our most realistic fears: finding a scorpion in our home. How can we, as self-proclaimed desert dwellers avoid these creepy crawlers in our home? Is there something we can do with our yard to keep the scorpions away?
There are a few ways you can prohibit scorpions from inviting themselves over without your permission.
Get An Exterminator To Spray Your House
For starters, getting your house sprayed by an exterminator for small bugs and other pests is a great start. Said smaller bugs are scorpions mean food source, illuminating what they eat will illuminate their presence. Small bugs are also attracted to sources of light, so limiting the amount of artificial light you create in your landscape will also decrease the amount of small bags and pests you find in your yard. If you do have a light sources in your yard, one quick tip would be to switch your bulbs from white to yellow. Yellow light doesn’t attract as many bags as white lights do.
Check The Seals Around Your House
Another tip would be to check the seals around your house. Maybe you’ve been noticing a door doesn’t close the way it used to, or you have weatherstripping that is starting to rise due to duration. A good rule of thumb is that if you can slip a credit card under your weatherstripping or through a crack into your home, your house is fair game for not only scorpions, but an infinite number of other bugs to enter through, as well.
