Great Outdoor Potted Plants For Your Home

Outdoor Potted Plants

Are you looking for a way to spruce up the front or backyard of your home? Do you feel like it could use just a bit more color and charm? You might consider using potted plants and flowers to add to the look and feel of your home. Outdoor potted plants are especially popular in the Phoenix area where some ground is unsuitable for gardening.

If planned and cared for properly, potted plants can add beauty to your yard all year-round. Because of the harsh summers we experience here in Arizona, there are some plants that tend to work better than others. Here are a few suggestions of some great outdoor potted plants for your home:

Agave

To start with, here is a plant that you may not necessarily know for its amazing blooms, but more for its architectural flair. Agave is a gorgeous plant that thrives in the deserts of Arizona. They can grow to as tall as 4 feet depending on which variety you use. Be sure to mind the sharp leaf tips! Some people prefer to cut them off to avoid injury.

Lantana

The lantana plant is known to produce multicolor flowers including shades of red, orange, yellow, pink and white. If you do plant Lantana, don’t be surprised to receive visits from butterflies that absolutely love the blooms.

Pentas

No matter how hot it gets during the summers of the Southwest, the Pentas will continue to grow and bloom. They appear in clusters of beautiful starry red, white, or pink flowers. Pentas is a great choice when you are looking for something that can stand up to the heat of Arizona.

Banana

Not only do Banana plants look amazing when planted and place in the right spot, their huge leaves can actually provide quite a bit of shade to your garden as well. Banana leaves can grown from 1 to 15 feet in length depending on the type. Most banana plants are green, although there are some types with dark red or white edges.

Angelonia

Often referred to as the summer snapdragon, the Angelonia is very adaptable to any climate. You can identify the Angelonia because of its spikes of purple, white or pink flowers that are able to grow no matter how hot it gets outside.

These are just some of the many ideas for outdoor potted plants that you can use to add to the aesthetic of your home garden. Whether or not you consider yourself a green thumb or not, you’ll have fun using outdoor potted plants in your landscaping design.
